Tips

  • Wear shoes that tie or regular water shoes... a lot of people lose flip-flops.
  • Bring sunscreen, and bug spray.
  • Bring towels and dry clothes.
  • Bring along a thirst quenching drink: water, ice tea, etc.
  • Pack all items in a water proof bag (dry bag) that you don't want to get wet, tie all items to the canoe, and leave at home things you don't want to lose, rings, watches, billfolds, money, necklaces, etc.
  • Bring back as much as you take with you ... don't litter the river... pack out what you pack in. We support and practice Leave No Trace wilderness ethics, and strongly urge you to also. A lot of people like to take a garbage bag along and help clean up the river as they go.
  • Allow sufficient time for swimming, picnicking, resting.
  • Keep off private property or respect private property.
  • Respect fishermen and don’t cross their lines. All fishermen must have a fishing license, the fine for fishing without a license is quite high.
  • Use a strap to retain eyeglasses.
  • Lock valuables in car out of sight.
  • Wear your life jacket at all times.
  • Don’t grab other canoes.
  • Don’t tie canoes together.
  • If you are with a group, plan for a lead and a tail canoe, and no one should get out from between them.
  • All children under age 13 must wear their life jacket at all times, this is a state law.
  • Have fun.
